As a BYD investor, I'm upset to see them waste so much money on dead technologies like PHEVs/EREVs. As BYD works to eliminate ICE cars, they simultaneously make half their own lineup that depends on ICE obsolete as well. Swapping out CO2 for other toxins like ozone and nitrogen oxides is not a solution.

Changan Mazda, a joint venture between Mazda and Chinese state-owned Changan Auto, unveiled two new EVs as it looks to compete with BYD, Tesla, and others in the region. With plugin registrations going up 133%, the highest monthly growth rate in over 8 years, with both technologies running hot, with BEVs jumping 125%, to 289.000 units, while PHEVs jumped 155%, to a 125.000 units. The BEV/PHEV breakdown stayed more or less the same, with the current standing at 68% BEV, 32% PHEV.
