Of course, Toyota could do it today with larger NiMH battery packs. I'd wager there is more than one plug-in Prius hidden away at Toyota's skunkworks in Japan. Of course they both already produced electric cars with over 100 mile range using the same NiMH chemistry in every hybrid , but they don't talk about that.

Toyota has stepped up its research, development and production capacity of both NiMH and Li-ion batteries and will use these technologies where appropriate in its expanding focus on electrification of the automobile. Nominal pack voltage of the nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery remains at 201.6 At end of life, every part of the battery is recycled or processed for disposal at a dedicated facility in Japan. 2010 Prius designed to be manufactured with NiMH or Lithium batteries. People wont buy a full car. They will buy a car and rent or lease the battery and the cost of leasing the battery will be the same as, or less than, the cost theyre paying today for petrol. Says demand and whether people will plug in remain to be proven.

It was a well thought out move by PSA Peugeot Citroen to sign an agreement with Mitsubishi to manufacture the vehicle in Europe after the i-MiEV enjoyed significant success on its launch in Japan this summer. However, the company can boast a number of exciting green concepts of its own.
