One note – if you want the magnetic ride package, and I think you do, you need to first buy the Performance Package. Fuel economy for the EcoBoost is 22 mpg city/33 mpg highway/26 mpg combined, and 21/29/24 with the Performance Pack. You buy a Mustang, you know what you’re sacrificing.

Elio Motors, which has been struggling since 2009 to build its own ultra-cheap, small, fuel-efficient, three-wheeled car, announced Thursday that it will source an engine from a major automaker. Previously, the company planned to build its own 3-cylinder engine with up to 55 horsepower for its projected 84-mpg three-wheeler.

So well-suited, in fact, that I put it on my list of “if I needed a brand-new crossover, I’d consider buying this”. Some materials felt a bit cheap, though. The entire package is well put together, balancing fun-to-drive, functionality, and fuel economy. The hybrid pairs a 1.6-liter horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque.

But it’s not cheap; it’s not elegant; and Lexus’ tech foibles carry over from the standard RX and other models. The electric-only range is meaningful, it’s just a shame the package is priced as if Lexus doesn’t really want anyone to buy this thing.
