The all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma is starting to land on dealers’ lots, but the EPA hasn’t released fuel economy figures for the truck. The Canadians estimated that the six-speed manual transmission-equipped Tacoma returns 18/23/20 mpg city/highway/combined, while variants with the eight-speed automatic return 19/25/21.

& While we assume the hybrid will probably draw in some customers seeking to save on fuel costs, Toyota expects the Tacoma hybrid to net a combined EPA fuel economy rating of 23 or 24 mpg depending on the trim. & Hybrid versions of the Ford Maverick boast an EPA average of 42 mpg in town and 33 in on the highway.

That unit comes with a 10-speed automatic and should provide a 21 mpg combined EPA-certified economy rating when configured for front-wheel drive. Still, it’s supposed to deliver 24 mpg (combined) and adds rear-wheel steering, adaptive dampers, and flashier 22-inch wheels.& liter inline-four offering 275 horsepower.

It equals the non-hybrid ES 250 in acceleration (0–60 mph in about 8 seconds) but roundly thumps it in fuel economy with an EPA-estimated combined rating of 44 mpg. A hybrid ES 300h pairs a 2.5L inline-four with electrified guts to produce a total system output of 215 horsepower.

Still, none of the above ended up being a trade-off for improved utility or sublime fuel economy. Meanwhile, customers were getting the kind of fuel economy one would expect from a modern performance sedan. Hell, even the Honda Civic Type R is supposed to yield 36 mpg on the highway when the C-HR was only able to manage 31 mpg.
