Nissan unveiled its prototype production facility for laminated all-solid-state battery (ASSB) cells, which the company aims to bring to market in 2028. This prototype facility, within the Nissan Research Center in Kanagawa Prefecture, is aimed to further promote the development of all-solid-state-batteries.

Nissan is now using two battery electric vehicle (BEV) heavy-duty, Class 8 trucks to deliver new vehicles from the Port of Los Angeles (POLA)to dealerships in the Los Angeles region. The proof-of-concept project will help Nissan and its logistics partners understand more about the use of all-electric trucks for vehicle delivery.

Nissan Motor and Mitsubishi Motors unveiled their first jointly developed light electric vehicles (EVs)—the Sakura and the eK X EV (pronounced “eK cross EV”), —in Japan. Sales of the Nissan Sakura are scheduled to start this summer, with pricing from ¥2,333,100 to ¥2,940,300 (US$18,000 to $23,000).

Nissan Motor Co., and Sunwoda Electric Vehicle Battery Co., will begin studying joint development of next-generation vehicle batteries for Nissan’s e-POWER vehicles. Nissan and Sunwoda aim to conclude a final agreement by the end of this year, based on the specific content and conditions of the study.

Nissan and Enel have partnered to launch the Second Life project. Combining used Nissan electric vehicle batteries at a conventional power plant in Melilla, Spain, operated by the Enel Group’s Spanish subsidiary, Endesa, the project enhances grid stability to help meet the needs of an isolated network.

Nissan has begun using second-life battery modules from first-generation LEAF electric vehicles as the power supply for automated guided vehicles (AGVs) in its plants. At Nissan’s Oppama plant, south of Tokyo, there are more than 700 AGVs. Globally, Nissan has more than 4,000 AGVs at work.
