Department of Interior awards initial $560M to 24 states to plug, cap and reclaim orphaned oil and gas wells

The Department of the Interior awarded an initial $560 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to 24 states to begin work to plug, cap and reclaim orphaned oil and gas wells. The $560 million is part of an overall $1.15 billion in Phase One funding announced in January by the Department for states to plug and remediate orphaned wells.

Transcanada restarts Keystone oil sands pipeline operations

US State Department to issue Final EIS on Keystone XL pipeline in August; additional meetings in affected states

Keystone XL is a proposed 1,700-mile oil pipeline from the US-Canadian border in Montana, through Cushing, Oklahoma, to carry crude from the Canadian oil sands to refineries on the US Gulf Coast.

In the Permian Basin, approximately one additional barrel of oil can be recovered for each 6,000 cubic feet (6 Mcf) of compressed CO 2 injected into the oil field. In oil fields such as Whiting’s, the injected CO 2 mixes with the oil that is left behind in the primary oil-well production and the secondary water-injection stage.

State Department issues Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement on Keystone XL Pipeline: climate change impacts

The US Department of State (DOS) has released its Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) in response to TransCanada’s May 2012 application for the Keystone XL pipeline that would run from Canada’s oils sands in Alberta to Nebraska. The pipeline would primarily transport crude oil from the WCSB and Bakken regions.
