IBM has teamed with American Honda Motor Co., By utilizing the existing in-vehicle communications system in the Honda Fit EV, the electric vehicle can interact with utilities and the grid, creating a direct channel for sending and receiving usage information that could improve local grid management.

While people can purchase neighborhood electric vehicles today for about $10K, they only have a top speed of 35 miles an hour or so, essentially glorified golf-carts. All the commercially available freeway-capable (70 mph) EVs are priced way out of reach for the average consumer.

The production of Neighborhood Electric Vehicles and electric bicycles is picking up. But this is unlikely to have a large impact on the availability of full BEVs. Honda with the remaining CNG vehicle from a major and two hydrogen fuel cell cars. I hope to find out more tomorrow. A few bio-cars were there.

The new ‘H’ mark will be applied on future Honda EV models, including the Honda 0 Series. Pricing has not been announced.
