HP Taxis, Prins Alternative Fuel Systems and SBL-Automotive revealed [link] of the plug-in hybrid range-extended electric LEVC TX taxi and VN5 van allowing the range extender engine to run on LPG and CNG and their renewable counterparts of biopropane and biomethane. For CNG/biomethane the engine bay layout is similar.

EPA’s analysis shows manufacturers can comply with the final standards with modest increases in the numbers of electric vehicles entering the fleet. As the GHG standards get stronger over four years, sales of EVs and plug-in hybrid vehicles will grow from about 7% market share in MY 2023 to about 17% in MY 2026, the agency projects.

The diesel share of new US vehicle sales in 2018 exceeded that of hybrid vehicles, which came in at almost 2% of total sales, as well as the sales of plug-in electric vehicles (plug-in hybrids and full-battery-electric vehicles combined), which also came in at around 2% of total sales. Electric vehicles are getting progressively better, and this is especially evident in the Department of Energy’s highest MPGe list for Model Year 2022 EVs. As per data from the DOE, 17 electric vehicle models achieved 100 miles per gallon of gasoline-equivalent (MPGe) or higher.

That seemed to be a hint that Toyota wasn't moving too quickly on plug-ins. As if to confirm that notion, recently a Toyota spokesman in DC was denigrating plug-in hybrids as Hymotion/A123 and Rob Lowe were making a plug-in splash in Congressman Ed Markey's global warming committee.
