The NOI references numerous additional analyses that EPA and NHTSA are working with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to complete. While the NOI and TAR represent a good start, it is clear that much work remains before new standards are proposed. We look forward to reviewing those studies.

EPA obtains the detailed data supporting the report directly from automobile manufacturers; the agency has been collecting and maintaining these data since 1975.

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) received indications of irregularities from a study published by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) in May 2014. Emission deviations between test bench and road operation exist at all automobile manufacturers and are not automatically attributable to violations of regulations.
