Ford and the University of Michigan opened a new $8-million battery lab, housed at the U-M Energy Institute, which will serve as a battery manufacturing facility designed to support pilot projects. Ford, the only automaker to invest in the facility, contributed $2.1 —Ted Miller, Ford’s manager of battery research.

For the ADEPT project, the consortium comprises CPT, the European Advanced Lead Acid Battery Consortium (EALABC), Faurecia Emissions Control Technologies, Ford and the University of Nottingham. There is a continual drive within the auto industry for low carbon vehicle technologies.

Think Global was formerly known as Think City, a prior Ford Motor Company ( F ) acquisition and part of a now-defunct Think division at Ford. If the EV1 was viable (or even close) we would see Ford, Toyota, Honda, etc all with 80 mile cars right now.do 80 miles was the range of the EV1 with Lead Acid batteries, that GM tried to use because they wanted the project to fail. it was the first batch of EV1s that they tried to use lead acid batteries and developed problems.
