Volkswagen unveiled the Golf Sportwagen HyMotion hydrogen fuel cell hybrid research vehicle demonstrator yesterday at the Los Angeles Auto Show ( earlier post ). The fuel cell and battery power an electric motor adapted from the e-Golf. Middle: At start, energy will only be flowing from the battery (top, blue) to the motor.

VW, Daimler subsidiary Daug and Varta developed a NimH battery in the early 90s, and the VW group put the Audi duo hybrid on the road in 1997. However, Winterkorn said, VW, and the German auto industry in general, abandoned the early advantage and work in electromobility. And the auto industry doesn’t hold back on announcements.

Will GM’s Ultium Cells battery factory in Lordstown, Ohio be able to supply enough battery packs? In March of 2020, I and an estimated 75-100 auto/EV journalists and influencers got to see (but not photograph) 10 of GM’s future EVs. What percent of GM’s total sales in 2025 would EV sales comprise?
