Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) has announced that its electric vehicle (EV) will be available in India for sale by 2025. Suzuki Motors has a global EV alliance with Toyota, however it has lags with regards to its BEV strategy in India. Four years already down and just a handful of BEV models are available on the market for private users.

In 2012, the Board approved a new optional provision which allowed manufacturers to produce extra ZEVs in the section 177 states prior to model year 2018. This provision was put in place to smooth the transition into 2018 and subsequent model year requirements, and ensure ZEVs were placed in the section 177 states prior to 2018 model year.
