BYD recently delivered five electric buses to the Vineyard Transit Authority (VTA) in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts; a sixth is scheduled to be delivered by the end of the July. VTA had placed the order for the buses in August 2017. The six-bus order comprised four BYD K9S 35-foot models and two K7 30-foot models.

Wang Chuanfu, chairman and president of BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY), suggested in an April 1 speech at the China EV 100 Forum that China should extend the NEV purchase tax exemption to 2025, hoping the move would be fast-tracked to stabilize expectations, according to a video replay seen by CnEVPost.

BYD, the world’s largest manufacturer of electric vehicles, unveiled its expanded battery-electric bus manufacturing facility in Lancaster, California—North America’s largest. The growth of BYD Coach and Bus reflects a rapid transition to electric transportation and will allow BYD to build up to 1,500 battery-electric buses annually.

BYD delivered the first all-electric automated side loader refuse truck to the City of Palo Alto and GreenWaste, the city’s waste hauler service. The BYD electric refuse truck uses its batteries for propulsion, as well as to power the hydraulic system for the body.

JANUARY 27, 2017
The student-funded and -operated Anteater Express shuttle service is acquiring 20 buses from BYD for $15 million. The vehicles are being built at the company’s Lancaster plant to roll onto campus for the 2017-18 academic year, joining a hydrogen electric bus to provide more than 2 million pollution-free rides annually.

In November 2017, the TTC Board approved procurement of 30 all-electric vehicles. In June 2018, the Board approved the purchase of 30 more. The TTC acquired the 60 all-electric buses from three manufacturers: BYD Canada Co. While the other eBuses use DC electricity to charge, BYD vehicles use AC. New Flyer Industries Inc.

These investments support the emission reduction goals of the California’s 2017 Climate Change Scoping Plan ( earlier post ), State Implementation Plans and the California Sustainable Freight Action Plan. The majority of funding for the Fiscal Year 2017-18 plan comes from California’s cap-and-trade auction proceeds.
