Toyota has reduced the MSRP on the 2014 Prius Plug-in Hybrid by more than $2,000, making the starting MSRP $29,990 (excluding dealer preparation and handling, DPH). Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announced that as of the end of June, worldwide cumulative sales of the Prius gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle (generations I, II and III) passed the 3-million mark. Total global Prius nameplate sales (the expanded Prius family) are at 3.436 million units. TMC launched the Prius in 1997.

The 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid received very positive reviews when it was launched almost a year ago. Its EPA fuel-efficiency rating of 47 mpg combined approaches that of the 50-mpg Toyota Prius, but the Accord is a more conventional looking mid-size sedan--a plus for many buyers.
