Colorado State University will retrofit two internal delivery trucks with fuel-efficient hydraulic hybrid systems, paid for by a grant from the Colorado Energy Office. The vehicles, 2012 GMC trucks, will be put into delivery service on campus. Colorado State has selected Lightning Hybrids LLC ( earlier post ) to provide the systems.

Overall, GM sales were up 16% year-on-year in June to 248,750 vehicle—the company’s highest sales since September 2008. Combined sales of all seven Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac crossovers were up 30 % versus a year ago. TMS posted June sales of 25,776 hybrid vehicles, an increase of 335.2% to 18,983 units.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) has deployed 40 Nissan Altima Hybrids as the first alternative fuel vehicles to be used as marked and unmarked patrol cars in the Police Department’s fleet. The Nissan Altima Hybrids account for 40 of more than 100 total hybrid vehicles the Department is expected to deploy this year.

In a post on GM’s FastLane blog, Vice Chairman Tom Stephens said that the company will apply plug-in hybrid technology to one of the four core brands remaining after the restructuring: Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC. I’m pleased to let you know the plug-in hybrid technology will be applied to one of GM’s four core brands.
