Total combined Toyota and Lexus hybrid vehicle sales in the US have topped the one million mark, according to Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), USA. Overall, cumulative worldwide sales of Toyota and Lexus hybrids have exceeded 1.7 Toyota launched of the Prius in late 1997 in the Japan market, and in the US in July 2000.

Toyota, French energy provider EDF, and the City and the Urban Community of Strasbourg launched a large-scale, 3-year Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle demonstration in Strasbourg. Based on the third-generation Prius ( earlier post ), the new Prius Plug-in Hybrid ( earlier post ) is equipped with a lithium-ion battery pack.

There were several collaboration announcements between automakers with regards to fuel cell electric vehicles, including Toyota and BMW’s long-term strategic collaboration to jointly develop a fuel cell system.

Toyota has now moved to have a plug-in approved in Japan and will test them on California campuses. As well as the hybrid set up, riders can also toggle between two other modes on a HyS scooter: electric and petrol. And there has been some big news on that front in the last few weeks. When the Honda CR-Z (Compact, Renaissance, Zero) Concept (see article ) made its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2007 it was described as the “world’s first hybrid sports car”. The Honda CR-Z is intended to be sporty, efficient and inexpensive and will feature the same Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) as the Honda Insight Hybrid.
