Established in 2002 as a pilot program of the Center for Neighborhood Technology, IGO was the first car-sharing program in Chicago and has been dedicated to creating an integrated multimodal transportation system for more than a decade. IGO offers a range of vehicles, including the Nissan LEAF and Mitsubishi i-MiEV battery-electric vehicles.

A paper by a team from the University of Chicago and MIT suggests that technology-driven cost reductions in fossil fuels will lead to the continued use of fossil fuels—oil, gas, and coal—unless governments pass new taxes on carbon emissions. Currently battery costs for an electric vehicle are about $325 per kWh.

Coulomb Technologies, a provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging station infrastructure, has secured $14 million in Series B funding in a round led by Voyager Capital and Rho Ventures. Since 2007, Coulomb has been introducing networked charging stations for EVs since 2007.

Hybrid Electric Vehicle Technologies www.hevt.com Chicago, IL converts Ford F-150 pickup trucks. CalCars converted Priuses into a PRIUS+ at the 2006 and 2007 Maker Faire s. In January 2007, CalCars began a project to install Valence batteries in several cars that led to the creation of OEMtek (see above).
