Hodges Former dean of engineering Life Fellow, 85; died 13 November Hodges, who was dean of engineering at the University of California, Berkeley , conducted pioneering research in IC design and semiconductor manufacturing. He was inducted into the Silicon Valley Hall of Fame in 2013. Mulligan Jr.

Researchers at the University of Regina, Saskatchewan are proposing a new enhanced heavy oil recovery (EHOR) process: Cyclic Production with Continuous Solvent Injection (CPCSI). A paper on their work is published in the journal Fuel ; the team had earlier presented their work at 2013 SPE Heavy Oil Conference in Calgary in June.

Speaking at the International Scientific Congress on Climate Change (ISCCC), which opened today in Copenhagen, Yale University president Richard Levin announced that the university’s new Yale Climate and Energy Institute (YCEI) will be led by Dr. Rajendra Pachauri, who has headed the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) since 2002.

A paper by a team from the University of Chicago and MIT suggests that technology-driven cost reductions in fossil fuels will lead to the continued use of fossil fuels—oil, gas, and coal—unless governments pass new taxes on carbon emissions.
