I was at the end of a 3-year lease and a 6-month extension on my 2018 Chevrolet Volt Plug-in Hybrid. I love several things about the Volt that tipped my decision to buy out the lease and keep on driving—mostly on electricity: The Lectron charger has style and speed. The Tesla adapter is a must in my neighborhood.

I think that’s fair since on a good day my 3 ½-year-old Chevrolet Volt has a 61-mile all-electric range, roughly comparable to a used Nissan Leaf or Fiat 500e. Would I have bought my Volt without the rebate? The number of EVs in my neighborhood seems to be growing weekly. Nissan Leaf EV – 4,192.
