To figure out how to make electric trucks work in practice, the manufacturer, the state of California, and a wide array of partners—more than a dozen all told—launched the Volvo LIGHTS (Low Impact Green Heavy Transport Solutions) project in 2019 to test its first electric Class 8 tractors with multiple Southern California operators.

While I was aware of this trend — I see it loud and clear in my own neighborhood — I hadn’t realized how wide-spread this trend actually was in the US. In my own neighborhood I see several EV drivers with long cables from Level 2 chargers in the garage, and extension cords presumably from a 120 Volt outlet. Volker, Calvin G.

Driving around town, stuck in stop-and-go rush hour freeway traffic or coasting down hills will recharge the battery. With the ID4 rated at a 250-mile driving range, recharging stops were planned to happen with 40-50-percent battery remaining. The turning radius was impressive, making for easy U-turns in your neighborhood.

Nobody was recharging any cell phones or laptops during the 1976 bicentennial year. (I m Weatherization Assistance Programs ($5b) Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Programs ($300 million), Green Jobs ($500 million), Neighborhood Stabilization Programs ($2b). Not when we can take such simple, easy steps to fight back instead.

Furthermore, even the older version PHEV can recharge at a slow rate using local solar, wind, water-derived or other net zero CO 2 fuel.
