Toyota is offering a new electric all-wheel drive system (AWD-e) on the facelifted 2019 Prius. Toyota projects fuel economy of 52 mpg city / 48 mpg highway / 50 mpg combined for the AWD-e model, and estimates that the AWD-e model—which is debuting at the LA Auto Show—could account for as much as 25% of annual US Prius sales.

Ford projects that its upcoming C-MAX Hybrid ( earlier post ) will achieve an EPA-rated 47 mpg city (5.0 L/100km) and 44 mpg highway (5.3 L/100km)—higher fuel economy than the Toyota Prius v (44 mpg / 5.3 L/100km city and 40 mpg / 5.9 L/100km highway) and at a $1,300-lower base price.

Toyota has reduced the MSRP on the 2014 Prius Plug-in Hybrid by more than $2,000, making the starting MSRP $29,990 (excluding dealer preparation and handling, DPH).
