Hydrogen can be used as an effective storage medium to increase utilization of these renewable energy resources.

Researchers at Oregon State University (OSU) and the University of Oregon have shown photobiological hydrogen production from one type of cyanobacteria ( Synechocystis sp. A paper on their work was published earlier this year in the International Journal of Hydrogen energy. They also produce some hydrogen, though.
