Ford, Honda, and BMW have announced plans to create a new “vehicle-to-grid company” that’s aimed at standardizing vehicle charging via a singular platform. ChargeScape will allegedly help “reduce EV customers’ personal carbon footprints” by utilizing electricity stemming from renewables like wind and solar.

Still, Nissan products ended up receiving the same negative score as the vehicles being offered up by Volkswagen, General Motors, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Honda, and Hyundai and all of its subsidiaries. Those who at least responded (Mercedes-Benz, Honda, and technically Ford) still didn’t completely answer our basic security questions.

But I would have been happier with a flat floorboard, aka the Honda Activa and the Suzuki Access. The plastic skin is good for reducing high speed wind drag, but it also means that airflow to cool the motor and batteries gets blocked. Both these features, incidentally, are not legal as per Indian traffic rules.

The Sonata PHEV is perfectly capable of handling (legal) Interstate speeds on battery pack alone; however, such operation depletes the battery relatively quickly. However, there wasn’t much opportunity to get a sense of Sonata handling in higher-speed cornering, steep inclines, and winding roads. Click to enlarge. Competition.

How about a car-mounted wind-generator? Honda Insight, Civic and Accord use an entirely different design: the electric motor never runs without the gasoline engine running at the same time. Photovoltaic arrays belong on stationary rooftops -- which is an excellent way to drive on solar power (roof > house > car).
