The luxury Lexus LS 600h L hybrid is the worst offender. It comes with more than $17,000 in forced features compared with the conventional, base model Lexus LS 460L. The Honda Insight, conversely, has no forced features, delivers more than 40 miles per gallon, and emits relatively little global warming pollution.

Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) reported September sales of 126,015 vehicles, a decrease of 12.6% The Lexus Rx hybrid posted 1,168 units, up 57% year-on-year; the GS hybrid posted 38 units, up 31% year-on-year; and the LS 600h posted 12 units, down 74.5%. Just two weeks ago, the Fusion was awarded Motor Trend's golden calipers as the 2010 Car of the Year, beating out the Honda Insight, the Lexus HS 250h, and the Toyota Prius, among numerous others. Ford might need to upsize their trophy case for all the awards the new Fusion is winning.

The list of participants at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show, which kicks off to the Press tomorrow (October 21), is perhaps indicative of Japan’s waning fortunes. When the Honda CR-Z (Compact, Renaissance, Zero) Concept (see article ) made its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2007 it was described as the “world’s first hybrid sports car”.

General Motors: GM sold a total of 1,708 hybrids during the month – an increase of 4.8 Honda: The company sold a total of 4,943 hybrids during the month with 4,226 of these units being the new Honda Insight. Toyota : Still the hybrid sales leader, Toyota sold 24,191 units in the month including 543 of the new Lexus HS250.
