Making its model year 2012 debut on the US market, the i-MIEV earned a score of 58, the highest Green Score awarded since the rankings began in 1998. Green score. Honda Insight. Honda Civic Hybrid. Lexus CT200H. Rounding out the top six are the Toyota Prius, the Honda Insight, and the Smart ForTwo.

The Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan hybrid sedans come in second, at 41/36, followed by the Honda Civic Hybrid; Honda Insight; Lexus HS250h; Nissan Altima Hybrid; Ford Escape, Mazda Tribute, Mercury Mariner Hybrid; smart fortwo Cabriolet and Coupe; Toyota Camry Hybrid; and Lexus RX450h hybrid.

The luxury Lexus LS 600h L hybrid is the worst offender. It comes with more than $17,000 in forced features compared with the conventional, base model Lexus LS 460L. The Honda Insight, conversely, has no forced features, delivers more than 40 miles per gallon, and emits relatively little global warming pollution.
