GM began producing cars on its J Platform beginning in 1981 , and the J-Body proved to be a tremendous global sales success for The General. By that time, all the GM divisions other than Chevrolet and Pontiac had stopped selling J-Bodies in the United States, with the Saturn S-Series taking their place. The replacement was the Sunfire.

As part of the new plan, GM will accelerate the wind-down or sale of HUMMER, Saturn and Saab to the end of 2009, and phase out Pontiac by the end of 2010. The revised plan moves up the resolution of Saab, Saturn, and Hummer to the end of 2009, at the latest.

The Hummer SUV sat silently behind Doug Parks, GM’s executive vice president of global product development, during his segments. The brand died in 2009 as GM declared bankruptcy, restructured with US government backing, and jettisoned not only Hummer but also Pontiac, Saab and Saturn. Everything old is new again.

nk Global , the reinvigorated Norwegian electric car maker. Contracts for lithium batteries for the plug-in hybrid Saturn Vue and the Chevrolet Volt have received much press. If drivers have to pay for fuel, this may become Project Permanently Parked in the Driveway, as the price of H2 is about four times that of gasoline.
