Polestar, Volvo Cars’ new electric performance brand, introduced the Polestar 1 plug-in hybrid to the public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show. The combustion engine in the Polestar 1 is a high-performance supercharged and turbocharged gasoline in-line four-cylinder engine. Two electric motors drive the rear wheels.

Volvo C30 DRIVe Electric. Backed by research support from the Swedish Energy Agency, Volvo Cars is initiating development of a fuel cell system that can extend an electric car’s operating range. The aim is to have two prototype chassis based on the Volvo C30 DRIVe Electric ready for testing in everyday traffic in 2012.

Ten Mercedes-Benz B-class F-Cell Cars; two Alfa Romeo MiTo fuel cell vehicles from Centro Ricerche FIAT (Italy); and five electric city cars with fuel cell range extension from H2 Logic (Denmark) will be provided in 2011 for daily operation in Oslo and on specific tours in southern Norway and the whole Scandinavian region.
