For the last 18 months, a fleet of 6 methanol-fueled versions of the Geely Emgrand 7 cars have been in Iceland. Among drivers testing the vehicles were CRI staff and members of the Icelandic Automobile Association as well as several local service providers in the auto industry. Geely is a shareholder ($45.5-million Earlier post.).

Danish Minister for Transport Trine Bramsen, Aalborg municipal government representatives, and European media were invited to witness the first test runs of Geely methanol vehicles on Danish roads and visit the e-methanol production facility at Aalborg University. Both have their own advantages and together complement each other, Geely says.

The new model is the latest product from Geely’s decade-long 3 billion RMB (US$470-million) investment into methanol vehicle development. From well to wheel, Geely’s methanol vehicles allow for a 70% reduction in CO 2 emissions compared to gasoline models. The new Emgrand runs on 100% clean methanol available in fueling stations.

Iceland is beautiful. I came as a guest for Driving Sustainability , Iceland’s conference for the future of cars. They lined up an international and terrific schedule. After the two day conference, we stayed on to film for “Revenge,&# because Iceland’s electricity is 100% renewable — the perfect place for EVs.
