The US Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy today released the 2010 Fuel Economy Guide, which gives consumers information about estimated fuel costs and mileage standards for model year 2010 vehicles. For MY 2010, the Prius is the top fuel economy leader , with EPA ratings of 51/48 mpg city/highway.

If you want to be picky, the 198 6 Sprint ER was the gas-mileage king of 1980s America, rated at 44 city and 53 highway miles per gallon. The 1987 Sprint ER came in second place, due to its insatiable thirst for go-go juice on the highway (51 miles per gallon). Just $66 with gas priced at $1.16 per gallon. It loves to run!
