The US Environmental Agency (EPA) has granted California’s waiver request enabling the state to enforce its greenhouse gas emissions standards (Pavley I) for new motor vehicles, beginning with the current model year. The resulting new national standards will cover model years 2012-2016, and will require an average fuel economy standard of 35.5

Kiessling Transit, a Massachusetts-based transportation company, is ordering 32 more hydraulic hybrid buses equipped with Lighting Hybrids’ Energy Recovery System (ERS) for medium- and heavy-duty trucks and buses. The ERS has demonstrated improvements of 25% in fuel efficiency, and significantly reduced tailpipe emissions.

These grants are available when a vehicle is either purchased or leased for 36 months or longer. This means that when the EV Mode is depleted, Prius Plug-in still obtains the same estimated fuel economy rating as Prius Liftback. While in EV Mode, the Prius Plug-in is rated by the EPA to drive up to 11 miles.
