The cars Californians choose set the tone for EV sales for 2021. Here’s the top 10 and their sales (and links to our latest reviews/news): Tesla Model 3 EV – 67,262. Toyota Prius Prime PHEV – 14,275. Toyota RAV4 Prime PHEV – 7,988. Tesla and GM both exceeded the state’s 200,000-unit sales cap on rebates.

Among electric vehicles from automakers that report specific sales numbers for their EV models, the Toyota RAV4 Prime PHEV was tops in the US in 2021 with 27,3707 units sold. Perhaps at the top of the list of trends from our Scoreboard is how well the two PHEVs from Toyota sold. 4 (16,742) BEVs. 4 by 10,398 units.
