82% of BEVs & PHEVs Available in the US in 2022 Have a Base MSRP of $40,000+

Out of 82 BEVs and PHEVs that are either currently available for sale in the US, or expected to be so by the end of 2022, 67 of them, or 81.7%, have a base manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) higher than $39,999, according to new analysis from EVAdoption. Fifteen or 18.3% have a base MSRP below $40,000 and 31 or 37.8%

Jeep Wrangler 4xe PHEV – 4,427. Tesla and GM both exceeded the state’s 200,000-unit sales cap on rebates. Tesla Model Y EV – 61,022.

2021 US EV Sales Scoreboard: RAV4 Prime and Mustang Mach-E Are The Top-Selling Non-Tesla EVs

Among electric vehicles from automakers that report specific sales numbers for their EV models, the Toyota RAV4 Prime PHEV was tops in the US in 2021 with 27,3707 units sold. Another top-selling EV beyond Tesla models that is not included is the Jeep Wrangler 4xe PHEV, which likely saw 2021 sales of between 20,000-25,000.

Beating Tesla to the market with the Bolt was quite a coup, particularly with a car as well-executed as this EV is, but GM has been slow with its follow up.

By 2025, “the forecast for (sales of) all electric vehicles in China is 5 million,” says Drobnak. BAIC’s EC series of electric vehicles was far and away the top seller.
