Norwegian startup Blastr Green Steel is planning to establish a green steel plant with an integrated hydrogen production facility in Inkoo, Finland. Blastr’s project—the green steel plant together with the integrated hydrogen facility—will be among the largest industrial investments in Finland.

Norway, Iceland and Denmark led the BEV market share charts in Q4, with Sweden and Finland following behind. While each of these countries reached the 5 percent tipping point several years ago, others like Turkey, Thailand, Estonia and Bulgaria did so at some point last year. By comparison, BEVs surpassed this milestone in the U.S.

Under the new Global Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Zero-Emission Medium- and Heavy-Duty Vehicles (ZE-MHDVs), Austria, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Scotland, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, Uruguay and Wales are setting an interim goal of 30% zero-emission new vehicle sales by 2030.

In addition to the first 15 countries the car is to be sold in, there have been requests to introduce the i-MiEV from Finland, Serbia, Turkey, and Slovenia. Three months after starting shipment, about 2,500 units—including Peugeot iOn and Citroën C-ZERO units—were shipped.

Turkey led with 86%, ahead of Finland (84%), and Sweden (80%). In the past year, more customers in Ireland went for diesel-powered cars (70%) than anywhere else, followed by Turkey and Romania (both 65%). Preferences for manual versus automatic gearboxes compared with the previous year were almost unchanged.

Also in Eurasia emissions grew in Turkey (5%) and Ukraine (8%). Within the EU28 the trends vary between countries with decreases of 6% for the UK and Bulgaria and of 3% for Greece and Spain, while increases of 5% in Ireland and Denmark and of 4% in Sweden and Finland occurred. Other greenhouse gases keep creeping up.
