Liquid intermediates from pyrolysis and hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) can be co-processed in an oil refinery along with conventional crude oil. After pyrolysis, the vapors are condensed to give a dark brown fast pyrolysis bio-oil (FPBO). In fast pyrolysis, biomass is quickly heated to around 500 °C in the absence of oxygen.

Oy Kati Ab, a long-term drilling contractor of Keliber, a company developing a European lithium project ( earlier post ), has started to use Neste MY Non Road Diesel renewable fuel oil in the drill rig at Keliber’s exploration site in Central Ostrobothnia. The measure will reduce the emissions caused by drilling by more than 50%.

Neste has made the final investment decision to commence construction of upgrading facilities for liquefied plastic waste at its Porvoo refinery in Finland. The upgraded liquefied waste plastic will then be processed in the conventional refinery in which it will replace a portion of the fossil resources processed at the Porvoo refinery.

Neste Oil is beginning the commercial use of tall oil pitch as a feedstock for refining into transportation fuel. Neste Oil Singapore Pte Ltd and National Oxygen Pte Ltd (NOX), one of the one of the largest industrial gas manufacturers in Singapore, have signed an agreement to install a carbon dioxide recovery and liquefaction plant at Neste Oil’s renewable diesel (NExBTL) refinery in Singapore.
