In September, GM’s plug-in hybrid Chevrolet Volt (2,851 units sold) and Toyota’s plug-in hybrid Prius PHV (1,652 units sold) continued to lead sales in the US of plug-in vehicles from major OEMs. The US market-leading Volt saw its September sales increase 294.3% (by volume) from September 2011 sales of 723 units.

GM sold 2,633 units of the Volt extended range electric vehicle in December, up 72.2% For the year, GM posted sales of 23,461 Volts, up 205.8% While Toyota took second place for the year, with 12,750 units of the Prius PHV plug-in hybrid, it dropped to third place in December with 1,361 units of the PHV.

GM posted sales of 4,244 Volt extended range electric vehicles in the US in the second quarter, representing an 8.4% March sales of the Volt in the US were weaker in March, with 1,478 units, compared to 2,289 units in March 2012, a decrease of 35.4%. For March, Toyota posted 786 units of the plug-in hybrid, down 11.8%
