Azure Dynamics Corporation announced that its Norwegian Ford dealership, RøhneSelmer, has signed an order for an additional 100 Transit Connect Electric vans. With a 28 kWh battery pack, Transit Connect Electric has a top speed of 120 km/h (75 mph) and a range of up to 130 km (80 miles) on a full charge.

It has a top speed of up to 50 mph, a range on one battery charge in excess of 100 miles and a payload of up to 16,280 lbs. SEV US Corp will utilize the Enova 120 kW P120 drive system for the Newton, a proven solution currently being used by Smith in Europe, and a lithium-ion iron phosphate battery pack.

It is designed to stow safely into commercial vehicles such as Transit Connect, which can act as carrier and support vehicle, and be combined with more than one e-bike. Azure Dynamics Corporation and RøhneSelmer AS signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to enter into an agreement whereby RøhneSelmer will import and distribute up to 400 Ford Transit Connect Electric vans annually. To create the Transit Connect Electric, Azure integrates its Force Drive electric powertrain into the Ford Transit Connect.

Ford is electrifying platforms versus a single vehicle, and plans five electrified vehicles for North America by 2012, including the Transit Connect Electric, on sale now, and Focus Electric this year. This all-new hybrid also will travel at a higher all-electric speed than Fusion Hybrid’s 47 mph.

In the UK and select European markets, Smith already offers battery electric versions of the Ford Transit medium commercial vehicle to fleet customers, and later this year will introduce a battery electric version of the Ford Transit Connect small commercial. Smith is also working with Ford on a US BEV version of the Transit.
