The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the availability of $26 million in grant funding to establish clean diesel projects aimed at reducing emissions from the US’ existing fleet of diesel engines. Grant funds may be used for clean diesel projects that use: EPA-verified retrofit technologies or certified engine configurations.

We are beginning to get a sense of regional variation in methane emissions from natural gas production. The gas fields we studied for this paper produced about 20% of the natural gas in the United States, and more than half the shale gas, so this moves us closer to understanding methane leaks from US natural gas production.

The Bakken Formation, a shale oil and gas field in North Dakota and Montana, is emitting roughly 2% (about 250,000 tons per year) of the globe’s ethane, according to new study led by researchers at the University of Michigan. Between 2005 and 2014, the Bakken’s oil production jumped by a factor of 3,500, and its gas production by 180.
