Kia Optima Hybrid sets a new Guinness World Record for fuel economy; Gerdes and Bernius achieve average 64.55 mpg through 48 US states

A Kia Optima Hybrid ( earlier post ) driven by hypermiler Wayne Gerdes and his colleague Chris Bernius set a new Guinness World Record for the lowest fuel consumption in a hybrid gasoline vehicle while driving through all 48 adjoining US states. l/100 km), beating the car’s official EPA highway fuel consumption figure by 61.37%.

Range Fuels Produces Cellulosic Methanol from Biomass at Soperton Plant

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced a conditional commitment for a $70-million loan guarantee to help build a cellulosic biorefinery in central Georgia. Ensyn Georgia Biorefinery I, LLC (Ensyn) will construct and operate a cellulosic biofuel refinery in Dooly County, Georgia.

Built for Honda by Peterbilt Motors Company, the EPA Smartway-certified Model 386 hybrid truck is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by almost 45 tons per year, as compared to its diesel counterpart.
