The City of Bogota, Colombia, has launched a pilot project to spur the use of electric vehicles in Bogota’s center-city taxi fleet. The first taxis are expected to be operational in the city in the next few months. On 29 December 2011, the City of Bogota enacted Decree No. 677 to support the project over a three-year period.

Accumulated fuel consumption over Cenex drive cycle for standard London taxi (TX2) and DuoDrive-equipped TX2 (blue line). In recent tests, the DuoDrive taxi demonstrated a 56% improvement in fuel economy compared to a standard London Taxi (TX2), and simulations predict that an improvement of 100% is possible with further optimization.

Based on the same architecture and proven eCity range-extending technology as LEVC’s TX electric taxi, VN5 can achieve an all-electric range of more than 60 miles (98 km) and a total flexible range of more than 300 miles (489 km).
