EPA awards $8M in FY2014 clean diesel grants in 21 states, Puerto Rico

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded $8 million to communities in 21 states and Puerto Rico to reduce emissions from the nation’s existing fleet of diesel engines through the agency’s Diesel Emission Reduction Act ( DERA ) program. IMO sets 2020 date for ships to comply with low sulfur fuel oil requirement; 5000 ppm

The interpretation of “fuel oil used on board” includes use in main and auxiliary engines and boilers. Ships may also meet the SO x emission requirements by using approved equivalent methods, such as exhaust gas cleaning systems or “scrubbers”, which “clean” the emissions before they are released into the atmosphere.

MAN Diesel & Turbo to convert 3 more coastal container ships to LNG

The three ships are sisters to the Wes Amelie, a 1,036-TEU feeder container ship with an MAN 8L48/60B main engine that was retrofitted to a multi-fuel, four-stroke MAN 51/60DF unit earlier in 2017. The roll on/off ships (ro-ro) are currently both powered by 4 × MAN 58/64 engines and will be retrofitted to MAN 58/64 retrofit units.
