Mercury Marine , the largest US outboard manufacturer, recently introduced two new OptiMax outboard models for the northern hemisphere summer. Both engines have been certified for the California 3 Star emission standards. Engines meeting these standards have 65% lower emissions than One Star-Low Emission engines.

A team at Ford Motor Company’s Research and Innovation Center in Dearborn conducted a detailed study of the effect of ethanol blend level in emissions, using a 2006 model Mercury Grand Marquis flexible fuel vehicle (FFV) operating on E0, E10, E20, E30, E40, E55, and E80 on a chassis dynamometer. The first engine in the EcoBoost line, a 3.5L, V6 engine ( earlier post ), is being applied in the 2010 Ford Taurus SHO and Flex and Lincoln MKS and MKT. A 2.0litre, four-cylinder version is scheduled to go sale next year and follows in the footsteps of a 3.5l, V6 engine that is applied in the 2010 Ford Taurus SHO and the Lincoln MKS. engine included twin independent variable camshaft timing and this system has now been applied in the production 2.0l 2010 Mercury Milan and Milan Hybrid.
