The Nikkei reports that Tokyo-based Dynamic Map Planning (DMP), formed earlier this year by Mitsubishi Electric, mapmaker Zenrin and nine automakers, will begin creating high-definition 3-D maps for self-driving cars this month. The project is supported by the Japanese government ( SIP-adus , Strategic Innovation Promotion Program Innovation of Automated Driving for Universal Services) in support of an effort to have autonomous vehicles on the road by 2020 equipped with a dynamic mapping system

At the International Consumer Electronics Fair (ifa) in Berlin, Daimler introduced a digital loading assistant app: “pactris”. The app determines whether and how all products and parcels fit in the smart’s luggage compartment. After the “smart ready to drop” logistics service, which has just been presented ( earlier post ), pactris is the second new innovation relating to urban mobility from smart.

New research by scientists at King’s College London suggests that air pollution from London’s roads is improving overall but more work may be needed to tackle some sources of traffic pollution, which continue to breach limits in many parts of the city. The study, published as an open-access paper in the journal Environmental Pollution , examined trends in air pollution over a ten-year period spanning 2005 to 2014, using data collected from 65 roads.

China-based Yadea has launched its Z3 electric scooter, initially into 15 countries including China, Germany, Korea, and Colombia. Starting price is US$3,388. The Yadea Z3 is powered by Panasonic 18650 battery cells. The battery cells are capable of keeping dynamic performance in environments from -10 to 55 ˚C (15 to 122 ˚F). With a weight of 9.6 kilograms (21 pounds), the Z3 battery can be quickly charged within 2 hours and last for 75 miles.
