A new economic analysis in an issue brief from the Consumer Federation of America (CFA) is recommending that the Obama Administration set a fleet-wide car and light truck fuel economy standard of 60 mpg (3.92 The Obama Administration will release a Notice of Intent for 2017-2025 light duty fuel economy standards on 30 September.

Current fuel economy policy clearly demonstrates this fact. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) continues to employ outdated mileage formulas (55 city 45 highway) that do not accurately represent consumers driving habits and dramatically tilts manufacturers into producing electric-vehicle solutions.

Earlier this month, researchers from MIT said they had developed a process that within three years could lead to electric car batteries able to recharge in as little as five minutes. My Honda Civic averages 34+ MPG over a year period. The Roadster can go 244 miles EPA. That’s 7 cents worth of electricity per mile driven.
