Achates Power has released initial in-use NO x measurements from the cleaner, heavy-duty diesel engine it developed in a project funded by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and several partners. Achates Power previously announced the opposed-piston has entered fleet service with WALMART Corporation in a Peterbilt 579 tractor.

Peterbilt Motors Company announced the availability of the new 2013 Cummins Westport ISX12 G natural gas engine. Peterbilt has been manufacturing trucks featuring liquefied natural gas (LNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel systems solutions for heavy-duty over-the-road, regional and vocational applications since 1996.

The EPA is expected to grant California a waiver to ban diesel trucks and a series of other regulations. Now, the west coast state is looking to place similar regulations on heavy diesel trucks. The California rule does stipulate that automakers could also sell hydrogen-powered vehicles as they wane off diesel.

Peterbilt Motors Company is now taking immediate orders for the production of its vocational and aerodynamic vehicles powered by compressed and liquefied natural gas (NG). The Long Beach, CA-based truck/trailer emits 85% less overall particulate matter and 10% less carbon dioxide than its diesel counterparts. Eaton Corporation has established a program to assist diesel truck fleet owners in applying for the $156 million in grants for diesel hybrid trucks that are available under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). An existing diesel truck has to be taken out of service for each new hybrid truck that is purchased.
