Major Jerry Asher wheels around Arizona in a Toyota Prius hybrid, packing an extra battery and preaching a message to “kick gas” in favor of electric power. a hybrid is converted to a PHEV, it can reach a top speed of about 52 mph in electric mode before the gasoline engine takes over. This technology will definitely get cheaper.

It already has the Prius and five other hybrids selling in the U.S. PHEV 's may not have arrived , but they are definitely on the horizon. Due in November, 2010 , the sedan will charge up in six hours and run for 40 miles before a small gasoline engine fires up and recharges the battery, extending the range to 600 miles.
