Nissan has launched a new fleet of Nikola and Kenworth electric semis that will deliver vehicles to dealers in Los Angeles. Nissan will only be starting with two trucks, one from Kenworth and one from Nikola, but they will serve as a testbed for expanded use in the near future. Kenworth will now offer the Maxwell Technologies ultracapacitor-based Engine Start Module (ESM) ( earlier post ) as a factory-installed option on new Kenworth T680 and T880 trucks. Kenworth dealers have offered the ESM as an aftermarket solution since 2011.

Those moves include investing hundreds of millions of dollars in a huge battery cell factory for electric trucks in Mississippi as part of a JV with Daimler Trucks and Kenworth parent company PACCAR … which may raise the question of why Cummins (who doesn’t manufacture trucks), and not PACCAR ( currently the only OEM to offer wireless charging through (..)

If you have only a few cars for sales reps or maybe a van for local deliveries, then going direct to a dealer may work. Obviously proper maintenance is the first step for no interruptions, but when something does happen, there needs to be a coordinated system for emergency roadside repairs when reaching a dealer is not possible.
