After Europe, the international version of the EQB, produced in Kecskemét, Hungary, will be launched at the end of the year, followed by the US market launch in 2022. In Europe, right from the start customers will have the choice between several models with front-wheel and all-wheel drive and various power levels, some rated at over 200 kW.

In Germany, Mercedes-Benz Cars has eight vehicle and powertrain plants (Bremen, Rastatt, Sindelfingen, Berlin, Hamburg, Kamenz, Kölleda, Stuttgart-Untertürkheim), which either purchase electricity or operate their own power plants. Already existing highly efficient gas CHP systems additionally generate local heat and power at the factories.

Whatever it’s called, production will start late in 2025 at a plant in Debrecen, Hungary, that BMW says is powered 100 percent by renewable energy. BMW has previously said it would be manufacturing solid state batteries prior to 2025. The following year it’ll also go into production in Munich.

At IAA Commercial Vehicles, Dutch truck manufacturer DAF—a division of Paccar—is showcasing the LF Electric, CF Electric and CF Hybrid Innovation trucks. The motor is powered by a battery pack of up to 222 kWh, providing a range of up to 220 kilometers when the truck is fully laden.
