Manufacturers are developing bidirectional chargers that can interact with a power grid. More than 15 major companies supply onboard chargers globally, with Lear Corporation and Panasonic in key positions as suppliers for Chevrolet Volt and Nissan Leaf. The 3.3kW chargers in today’s EVs are unidirectional.

Decrease the ancillary services cost per additional MW of solar power on the grid by 50%, if the proposed forecasting model was used operationally. This will reduce the indirect cost of solar power to California ratepayers. Demonstrate that a DC-linked chargeport is more efficient than an AC-linked chargeport.

Costs of light-duty plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) are high—largely due to their lithium-ion batteries—and unlikely to drastically decrease in the near future, according to a new report from the National Research Council (NRC). The other vehicle, the PHEV-40, is similar to the Chevrolet Volt ( earlier post ).

While electricity from older coal plants in India costs 2.7 cents from newer plants that have additional pollution-control equipment, the cost of solar energy has dropped to 2.7 cents per kilowatt-hour, and wind power to 3.4 MW of captive wind power off-site, the electricity from which will be wheeled in.

You can fill it up at the gas station, and you can plug it in to any 120-volt outlet. Its like having a second fuel tank that you always use first -- only you fill up at home, from a regular outlet, at an equivalent cost of under $1/gallon. A PHEV is essentially a regular hybrid with an extension cord. You dont have to plug it in.
