Enova Systems confirmed today that they, along with Navistar International Corporation and its subsidiary IC Bus, will deploy 16 hybrid school buses ( earlier post ) used for a number of school districts. n 2005, we collaborated on the industry’s first production plug-in hybrid vehicle, and we’ve refined the technology since.

Sandia National Laboratories’ Battery Abuse Testing Laboratory is undergoing a major renovation so Sandia researchers can test larger batteries for electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. Those studies included 12 years of testing for the FreedomCAR program and the US Advanced Battery Consortium.

PECO is expanding its fleet with new natural gas and hybrid electric models. The utility is participating in a national consortium that recently was awarded a federal stimulus grant to purchase plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and the company is buying more trucks to run on compressed natural gas (CNG) as well.

A123 Systems has added more than 50 corporate and research and development jobs in Massachusetts in the last year associated with its expanded US manufacturing capacity in Michigan. With the new expansion, A123 Systems will assemble and commission grid-storage battery systems in Massachusetts.

GE says the planned facility will produce approximately 10 million sodium-metal halide cells each year—equivalent to 900 MWh of energy storage, or enough to support 1,000 GE hybrid locomotives. Deutsche Bank’s China Auto analyst, Vincent Ha, continues to see robust light vehicle sales over the next few years, with a slow to about 11% YoY growth in 2011 (due to a high base from the 2010 surge, and reductions in government stimulus), followed by sustainable low double digit growth in 2012. He also makes the point, that plug ins will provide more energy security and less global warming. The cars I'm talking about are known as " plug-in hybrids."
