BYD and The Hertz Corporation, the world’s largest general use car rental brand, announced a strategic partnership to promote new energy applications to propel the development of the EV markets in China. As part of the partnership, Hertz will rent BYD’s e6 electrical vehicle (EV) to Chinese consumers, municipalities and government agencies.

The expansion of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD continues in earnest after the company signed a memorandum of understanding with SMRT Corporation in Singapore. The two will now enter discussions about the possibility of establishing a joint venture to distribute BYD’s eBUSes and e6 taxis.

SMRT Corporation Ltd’s Executive Vice President, Commercial Business & Roads, Teo Chew Hoon said that the company is exploring the use of electric vehicles in its bus and taxi fleets. The BYD eBUS-12 and the e6 taxis both can travel up to 300 km (186 miles) with a single electric charge.

Also at the Paris Air Show, EADCO and PC-Aero are presenting their two-motor electric aircraft project “Elektro E6”. The Elektro E6 is envisioned to feature a full carbon composite structure, two motors, high wing propeller, solar cells technology, 6 seats, 480 kg (1,058 lb) payload and 500-km (311-mile) range.
